She became a television news producer at KOAM-TV while a sophomore at Pittsburg State University and ended her television career as the Executive Producer of WAFB-TV in 2005. She produced breaking news coverage and specials on topics as diverse as the search for the south Louisiana serial killer, the trial of Governor Edwin Edwards, numerous hurricanes, the explosion of the shuttle over Texas and Louisiana, gubernatorial inaugurations and election night coverage.
Just two weeks before Hurricane Katrina struck south Louisiana, she switched careers and accepted a position as the Press Secretary for the Louisiana Department of Education, helping to lead the effort to keep the state informed through news conferences, news releases and interviews with the State Superintendent of Education. While at the state, she also led communications efforts for the Department of Social Services during Hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
She currently manages the award-winning 15-person Communications Department for BREC which includes acting as a spokesperson for the agency, directing all media efforts, leading the effort to develop a marketing plan for 18 separate marketing accounts, overseeing the design and printing of all collateral public relations material, directing the management of the agency’s websites and social media pages, the planning of groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting events, the management and promotion of BREC’s robust volunteer program and overseeing the in-house Graphic Design and Pint Shop areas.
She is the President-elect of the Public Relations Association of Louisiana (PRAL), Secretary of PRAL State, NRPA member, Southern Public Relations Federation member and Baton Rouge Press Club member.
